Your Contract is the patron, promise, or pressure that brought you into the Veil. It explains why your COMP was activated and what your patron expects in return. Choose one contract and apply its stat benefits during character creation.
These patrons are starting points, and are intended to be built upon. Work with your Compiler to decide what the patron looks like in your campaign, what it wants, and how dangerous it is to disappoint.
Black Box
A discrete intelligence bureau has been preparing for the Veil for decades, and still wants to do everything in its power to keep things under wraps. They gave you access because the official channels have failed, and now you are an asset they cannot publicly acknowledge. You do not know who they are and they only left one clue to find them. Whoever they are, they need your help and are willing to pay handsomely.
+1 Precision, +1 ConfidencePerk - Deep ThroatYou gain access to some restricted records, secure facilities, and people who are used to obeying classified orders. If you make contact with the agency who gave you the Black Box, they will be able to send you in the right direction to that leverage.
A Deal With the Devil
A cruel monster approached you with a bargain. It keeps its promises exactly, but never in the way you hoped. Part of its promises it that eventually it will have your soul.
+1 Stealth, +1 WitPerk - Evil EyeYou can immediately recognize when a conversation or area is following a logic similar to your patron like a sixth-sense. You may turn a failed social action into a partial success using a magical guile, but doing so will shortly summon your patron wanting to collect the benefits.
Research Grant
A megacorporation activated your COMP as part of a research program. The company promised security and a place in the future. The contract is less clear about what happens when the experiment ends.
+1 Engineering, +1 CyberPerk - MerchandisingYou begin with one useful piece of specialized equipment or a corporate credential, but the company can track its use. You may choose to request to swap equipment with another if the current tests are not satisifactory.
Guerilla Radio
A signal found you first: a transmission in static, a voice inside a corrupted file, or a message that appeared in every screen you own. The voice behind it, a swarthy anarchistic pirate claims to be fighting illegitimate authority. It may instead be recruiting an army.
+1 Physique, +1 WitPerk - Wild and Dangerous You have begun hearing the voices of your patron layered through your life. They will often alert you to threats or dangers nearby, or taunt you into making brash decision. You gain 1 cache die everytime you follow orders.
Monster Defense Force
A neighborhood defense network, labor collective, activist cell, or group of ordinary people who refuse to be abandoned. They cannot offer much, but they know who is missing, which doors are safe, and where the world is beginning to fall.
+1 Confidence, +1 PrecisionPerk - Good Friends You can call on a small network aware of the dangers of cosmOS with basic supplies, or a trusted introduction. Once per session, when you protect or assist another character, place one die in your Cache after the action resolves.
Inheritance
Someone left you a COMP, a key, and a set of instructions you were were to follow to the letter upon your patrons death. Your patron has dabbled in the occult in secret and intends to keep things just like they want them, even from the grave. This patron could be a stranger, a relative, or even you from the future.
+1 Vitality, +1 CharismaPerk - Inner SanctumYou have your own property with extensive notes and research on the cosmOS and related paranormal subjects, which you may draw from at any point. Begin with one research lead and a set of instructions to follow.
Gorange, The Hungry Idol
You are not certain what Gorange is. It has a full media presence that seems to be maintained by a professional team. It does not demand worship so much as attention, and it has begun to notice what you do with its gifts.
+1 Agility, +1 PerformancePerk Obsession The prescence of Gorange is strong. Invoking his art or patronage may bewilder those around you not familiar, and prevent you from suffering from reality warping effects or confusion. This pleases Gorange.
Open Contract
You activated your COMP without a known patron. Perhaps you stole the hardware, stumbled into a ritual, or were chosen by something that has not introduced itself. Every faction has a theory about who owns you. None of them agree.
+1 any statPerk - Stolen PropertyYou gain no reliable patron network, but instead you may temporarily gain a +1 bonus to Social Stats against any valid Contract Source, as they crave your potential.
