Concept
Before begining play its good to establish who your character is. Consider these questions:
- Who were you before? What was your life like in the mundane world?
- What drew you to the Veil? What event or discovery made you aware of this hidden reality?
- What are your goals? Do you seek power, knowledge, vengeance, or redemption?
- What is your relationship with society? Are you a rebel, loyal to a cause, or something in between?
Your answers here will inform choices later on. Work with your Compiler to ensure your character fits within the campaign world and complements your fellow players' concepts.
Distribution
Your distribution represents the philosophy and methodology through which you invoke power. Each distribution grants unique abilities and shapes how you interact with the world.
OS Distributions (Character Classes)
Backgrounds
Your background represents your expertise and history before forging a contract with a COMP. It grants you specific skills and mechanical bonuses.
Backgrounds
Contracts
Your Contract represents the inciting incident and desires that caused you to activate a COMP and let it into your soul. Contracts are thematic and often come with specific powers and abilities
Contracts
Your COMP
Your COMP is the device through which you interface with the Veil. It is equal parts computer and consciousness, requiring careful configuration. When selecting your starting COMP, be sure that it will be easy to access and use within the scale of the campaign.
COMPs
Select Chips
Chips are specialized software modules that grant your character specific abilities and powers. Each chip represents a particular skill or supernatural capability accessed through your COMP's processing power.
Chip selection is limited by your attribute levels and available processing capacity on your COMP. Select chips that complement your character concept and desired playstyle.
Each COMP is categorized by their side. Typically, characters begin with small COMPs but from the tone of the game, the Compiler may decide otherwise.

Step 5: Allocate Attribute Points
You have a pool of points to distribute among your character's core attributes. These represent your innate capabilities and determine the size of your dice pools for various actions.
Most characters start with 5 points to distribute. Your distribution may provide bonuses or restrictions on specific attributes. Attributes typically range from 1-5 during character creation, with 3 being average for a trained professional.
Choose Equipment
Beyond your COMP, equip yourself with physical gear that supports your operations. This might include:
- Weapons for direct combat situations
- Protective gear and armor
- Hacking hardware and adapters
- Communication and surveillance devices
- Tools and specialized equipment for your background
Equipment may have weight or encumbrance restrictions. Work with your Compiler to ensure your loadout is appropriate for your campaign.

Establish Relationships
Work with the Compiler and other players to establish connections between characters and NPCs:
- Contacts - NPCs who can provide information, resources, or support.
- Rivals - Others who oppose or compete with your character.
- Bonds - Deep connections to other player characters or significant NPCs.
- Obligations - Debts, favors, or commitments that drive your character's motivations.
These connections create narrative hooks and provide the Compiler with ways to involve your character in the story.
Final Review
Double-check your character sheet with your Compiler:
- All attributes are properly allocated
- Your chips are valid selections
- Equipment weight is within limits
- Relationships and character hooks are established
- You understand your special abilities
Once approved, your character is ready to enter the Veil and begin their story.
